question number 6 and 7 evaluation
Question number 6 is about the use of ICT and question number 7 is about how I progressed from my first experience of creating a front cover.
My progression in the biggest way is consist of improvement in using ICT, as i had a poor idea how to use it before. For creating my front cover I used Photoshop in pRTICULr and also indesign to crop and move the images. On the whole in photoshop I used tools such as -move tool, to move the image, brush, pencil and paint bucket to create the gradient effect and play with colors in my work. In my first work I found it quite difficult to understand, but as my experience in using Photoshop was increasing, I settled and felt more confident about everything I used- and this is a progression from my first work- confidence, as in previous work I was scared to do anything and the work did not look at a level in which I wanted it to be. Therefore, with my work for my media coursework O did more experiments and it looked better at every way. I also used tools such as Text tool to add some texts- layouts and other. I played with colors using foreground, background colors and it worked quite well. I was working with different layouts as Photoshop allows me to do it. Although I used a lot of tools, there a lot more to experience in Photoshop but for my work I used a big range of different tools in order to make my work be at a high level and I think I learnt quite a lot.
The other app that I was using was an Indesign app. This particular app helped me with organizing my pages - i followed my mock-ups to organize my front cover, double-spread page and content page. With this app i found a place for every image and cover line and ensured that all of the staff is at a right place. The biggest impact that was made by this app if the change of fonts in order to follow the Rap genre fully and I used a wide range of fonts in my work. I also used a special website to create my main cover line and make my front cover, especially my tittle look amazing.

Another thing to consider as my improvement from the first task apart from the ICT improvements is the use of media language, particular generic conventions to ensure that my music magazine follows the Rap genre. Before doing my media product i was unsure west generic conventions to use and did not know much about what media language is appropriate for the Rap genre. After the research and analyses i was clear about what forms of generic conventions to use and started working on my media product without any trouble. I researched the mark scheme, suitable images, media language features and progressed a lot since my first attempt when i was doubling and did nit know what to use to be more successful and clear with my ideas.

Evaluation question 4
Who would be the audience for your media product?
As the genre of my music magazine is Rap, my target audience is going to be teenagers at the age of 13-25. I consider this target audience as the generic conventions of my music magazine follows the interests of those most of all. Teenagers at that age are mostly interested in fashion, street style, clubs, their images, love, relationships, music and so on and all this is included in the content of my magazine. One of the biggest aspects of my magazine is the love story of a rapper and I feel like it is the most obvious thing that points out who is the audience for my media product. Love stories of artists are often followed by gossip, and it also shown at the pages of my magazine, as teenagers always like to read about dramas happening in artists world. Older people, especially men, would find this information irrelevant to music, not important and won't appreciate this in music magazine at all. For them, there are a lot of different points, that they find much more interesting and important rather than gossip and love affairs. Teenagers, on the contrary, don't take life that seriously and listen to music, read music magazines more often for entertainment , not to find serious information or to get important knowledge. Another thing is that Rap, as a music genre is a genre in which younger people like teenagers are interested more than the others. For children the texts of the songs may sound too rude and cruel, rhythm of music is too strong and quick, so children won't like rap music as it does not suit their interests and hobbies. So my primary audience is going to be male and female at the age 13-25. My music magazine can appeal to both male and female as it includes interesting things for both of them. Strong bright color scheme (red, black), images of the artists (mostly male, with tattoos, stylish clothes, haircut), information about new songs releases, artist itself, his style- those are all things that may attract male audience. For women it can be gossip news, love stories, style of the images of the female artists, fashion, dramas, etc. My music magazine has many features that interests both and that is why it is appealing to both.
My secondary audience is going to be adults at the age older than 25, but younger than 50. Those adults may also be interested in reading Rap music magazines and be true fans of Rap. For those there are also some interesting things included. Adults at the age 25+ are no longer interested in gossip and more interested in music itself. For them there is an article about the history of rap music, top lists of songs to help them find new music easily. People in such older age are more interested in intelligent and cognitive information rather than gossips. People of both genders might find this magazine appealing to them.

Textual analysis 2
'Rock Sound' magazine
This is an independent rock music magazine which has been publishing Rock music magazines for more than 14 years. The middle age of the target audience of this particular magazine is approximately 20. This magazine provides you information containing different features such as music, film, fashion, etc. Rock Sound provides its partners unique opportunities to reach the modern and fast-moving new music. The market of music is hugely competitive and this magazine successfully survived for over 14 years because this magazine covers all main interests of its target audience. For example: access to the best new bands and the biggest names on the scene alike. Rock Sound is the UK's leading independent rock title and it has built up an unparalleled level of trust and credibility among the audience.
Rock Sound's target audience is mainly teenagers aged 15-24, 72 percents male and 28 female. This magazine is incredibly helpful in discovering new music songs and trends as it offers fashion features and new music releases at the same time. Every issue of the magazine comes with a free CD curated by Rock Sound staff to showcase the great new music featured in the issue. Teenagers which form target audience of this magazine are mainly interested in those CD's as they rare looking for new songs and it is even better if they can have it fro free. Every teenager aged from 15-24 is interested in fashion and music, in this particular case rock music and this magazine is a great and may be ideal combination of both. Female audience is probably more interested in fashion rather than in music but they can still find loads of useful and exciting things on the pages of this magazine and that is why 28 percent readers are female. As statistics shows males are more interested in reading this magazine and this statistics can be support by the fact that boys are bigger fans of rock music rather than girls and magazine attracts them better because of the generic convention of magazine. Editors of 'Rock Sound" magazine uses several generic conventions which are relevant to rock music genre such as dark colors on the covering (black, dark-blue, dark grey) bright colors (red, orange) male dark clothes, bright make-up, strange hair-styles and others.
The main covering of this issue of 'Rock Sound' magazine contains 3 human figures. In spite of the fact that there are 3 of them, it is clear to the audience which one is the most important and significant because of the way the editor portraits this figure. Firstly, it is portrayed in the middle of the page and this thing already points on its value and meaning comparing with two other figures of men. The male figures are showed on sides of the main figure who is female. Secondly, the lifhtning. It is quite strong throughout the whole page but it mostly concentrates on the figure of a woman. Looking at the sizes of figures we can conclude that the size of female's figure is much bigger than the sizes of other male figures. The figure of a female stands out in compare with other figures and editor managed to do it by using color, light, size, colors. Colors used to made the image of the woman are much intense and bright, for instance the image of a woman, especially hair color. It is bright orange and this color is supported by the same color on the left side and the big title crossing the page horizontally in the middle and also the lipstick. Men on the sides are wearing fairly dark clothes and the hair color is dark and it makes them move backwards and not to be on the main position. The pose of a girl also connotes than she is main as she is crossing her hands and this pose symbolizes her confidence and power. The facial expression of a girl is very self-confident as she is looking straight at the camera. In addition, she is smiling, and it also comes back to the fact that she is a main figure. The font is dark grey, the main title is white and it is standing out. It goes behind the head of a girl connoting the fact that she is more important.
The content page is very busy with different photos, pictures, text elements, headings and others. All this goes well with the genre of this magazine. The genre of this music magazine is Rock and different generic conventions supplies that fact. For example: the image of main artist is representing Rock music genre by a specific hairstyle, bright dark make-up (in this case it is dark smoky shadows on the eyes, tone color, lip color, a strange hairstyle) clothes ( dark colored as always), jewelry ( massive rings, earrings, bracelets, chains) piercing is also very common throughout the Rock genre, the other generic convention is a presence of tattoos . The color palette of a cover is mainly dark and bright colors connoting the fact that it is Rock music magazine.

Targeting the audience
Who am I targeting? | How will I target them? |
Who am Targeting? | using generic conventions, I will refer to audience research in my textual analysis. The audience can be appealed by using modern features which will be interesting for young teenagers. Bright font’s colors, gossips, nes songs. |
Adults aged 18-40 | more mature and serious information from the real-life of artists. Generic conventions such as black or dark colors, serious layout , etc. The main character cab be older in order to interest older audience. |
Primary audience- male | research generic conventions and appeal them to the audience. For instance:male font(dark or bright plain colors, red, black, blue, white), main character can be a male Rap artist, in which male audience is interested most of all, information such as life-stories about artists’ life, new songs descriptions, generic conventions of the artist on the cover such as: tattoos, dark skin, jewelry( massive necklace, big rings, earrings) pircing, street-style cool clothing |
Secondary audience- female | the female audience can be targeting by using female artist on the front cover. For her image might be used a bright fashionable make-up which appeal to the major female audience, modern haircut, tattoos, jewelry. Information containing will be gossips, fashionable features of Rap artists, tips for images(clothes, accessorizes, make-up, hairstyle etc) |
People, who are interested in Rap/Hip- Hop music | This audience can be appealed by adding particular information, describing interesting aspects of Rap artists’ lives and their personality themselves. This might be some unknown secrets which no one really informed of, which can interest the audience. |

Treatment
My music magazine will be about Rap music genre. The sub-genre is going to be 'Gangsta Rap' and I will include information about 'Gangsta Rap' artists in my magazine, such as Eminem, 2Pac, Wiz Khalifa, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, 50 cent and others. It will include interviews with famous Rap artists, which will be focused on personal life of the artists apart from being on stage. Their families, love, friends and any other interesting events which are happening in their lives. The second main feature of my magazine will be life stories of the artists containing information about things that influenced them to start to sing. As always, rap artists start to write songs based on the life conditions in which they live. Some of them are inspired by street life, some of them are experienced bad things through their life such as death of their families, beating, homelessness. Texts of the Rap artists' songs clearly reflect their life, feelings and thoughts.
The cover of a magazine will consist of close-up shot of a Rap artist. I suppose that the Rap artist on main cover is going to be dark-skinned, as stereotypically most of the Rap artists are black, have many tattoos, piercing and wearing different chains and other special elements of clothes. I will try to make my model look like a real Rap artist by using generic conventions of this music genre.
Red and black colors are very popular with redactors of Rap magazine and the color scheme for my music magazine will consist of red and black colors. I am going to add white color because black, red and white go well with each other and it will make a front cover more balanced and interesting.

Textual analysis 1
Textual analysis of music magazine 1
Mixmag magazine
I am going to make an analysis of a music magazine called Mixmag and this particular issue is from November 2014. I have chosen this magazine as it is a very popular and demanding mainstream music magazine containing various information and knowledge. Like every other issue of Mixmag the masthead does not change. It is in the same position, however, in each issue there is a color change. The change is designed to match the theme and colors in particular magazine. In this issue editors have decided to use a bright red color which is balanced with other textual inscriptions on the front cover of the magazine. The selling line in the skyline 'The worlds biggest dance and clubbing magazine' helps to sell the magazine. Even though main image is portrayed on the left side of the page it is seen as the most important because of its size.
The main audience of this magazine are teenagers and adults, mainly people who are interested
in Rap and Hip-Hop music. Teenagers in age 12-18 appear to be interested in Hip-Hop music more than anyone else probably because this music symbolizes coolness and modernity and what teenagers are interested in. Quite often this kind of music contains bad language and that is the first reason why little children are not big fans of this genre. Sometimes the texts of Rap songs describe things such as smoking, taking drugs, sex and those are mainstream topics in teenager society which don't relate to young children at any way. Older people find those topics quite familiar to them and on some occasions they are interested in Rap music as well although teenagers remains the focus group for this genre. Older people after 18 are more likely to start creating families and Rap artists which are singing about life full of drugs and sex are not interesting for them any more.
The main character of this particular issue of the magazine is famous Rap singer which is portrayed in the middle of the page. The close-up of his face occupies the greatest part of the page which makes audience focus on the expression of his face first of all. This magazine contains information about this particular artist, interviews and reviews and the portraying the close-up shot of the artist makes audience understand what the magazine is going to be about. It can be seen from the cover page that the genre of this magazine is Rap because of the generic conventions which support that genre. As i previously said, things such as tattoos, jewelry, pricing etc. refers to Rap/Hip-Hop genre, and very often Rap and Hip-Hop artists are dark-skinned. This Rap artist on the covering is dark-skinned, which follows the stereotype of Rap artists. Other generic conventions such as jewelry on this artist also refers to the fact that this is a Rap genre music magazine. The eye expression represents the artist as a serious and business person who probably have some problems in his personal life. Stereotypically Rap artists are represented as cool, stylish, problematic, dangerous characters. The image of this artist is made in order to support this idea. His eye view brings tension and deep emotions to the audience and it makes them think more about the problems this artist is experienced and be interested in the nature of this artist. The look of the artist is designed in the way that teenagers would like to see Rap artist: cool hairstyle, street style of clothes, and other style details. Teenagers who are mostly interested in Rap genre music use Rap artists as icons and they are trying to look like them.
Mixmag magazine is published and distributed by 'Development Hell'. This company is independent and focus only on Mixmag. This company is based in Inslington, London . The board of Development Hell is chaired by Peter Strong and comprises Managing Director Jerry Perkins, Editorial Director David Hepworth and Finance Director David Joseph.
The font of the content page is black in contrast with main covering's font which is white. Headings are whet and are placed at the right and left sides of the pages. Most of the page is engaged with pictures of different artists. On the the left there is a picture of a girl in a club which connotes that this is music and clubbing magazine. In the left side of this picture there is a heading saying "the world's best club photos and listings" on page 116 and that helps to find information they want to read about most of all. Editor uses not bright colors throughout the whole page to create a specific atmosphere and to make a black font go well with the photos. On the right page there are 3 pictures which showing different artists and things. The color scheme is the same as at the other page and it does not contain any bright colors.
